Preliminary
Environmental Site Inspection ( P.E.S.I ).
 |
The purpose of the Preliminary
Environmental Site Inspections (the inspection) is to
determine, on the basis of professional judgment, visual
inspection, and discussion
with knowledgeable persons and readily available information,
whether the site may
present a significant environmental risk.
If such a risk is identified the assessor will recommend a Phase 1
study. |

Methodology
The inspection includes, where possible and in the time allocated, the following:

A visual inspection and walkover of the site. The following site attributes are
considered:

Irregular or sunken areas on the site
|
 |
Surface staining or oily patches
|
 |
Odours
|
 |
Bare or sparse vegetation
|
 |
Remains of site infrastructure
|
 |
Drums, tanks, pipe-work, pits
|
 |
Waste tips or lagoons
|
 |
Surface water discoloration
|
 |
Process areas
|
 |
Storage areas
|
 |
Underground storage tanks
|
 |
Chemical/waste storage areas
|
 |
Electrical transformers
|
 |
Filled areas
|
 |
Areas subject to flooding
|
 |
The presence of Asbestos Containing Materials
|
 |
Samples and analysis of materials suspected of
containing Asbestos (analysis
carried out by an Independent Accredited Laboratory)

 |
A brief description of the site history using information easily to hand.
|
 |
A brief inspection of relevant documentation held on site, particularly in respect
of waste handling and disposal, spillage’s, clean-ups, prosecution’s, asbestos
removal etc.

If available, a site plan is
attached to each report and in all circumstances (unless
otherwise stipulated by The Client) photographs are taken and included in the final
report.

Timescale
It is anticipated that most Preliminary Site Inspections can be completed in one day
with the report taking no more than two hours.

Please remember:
The purpose of a Preliminary Environmental Site Inspection is
to establish the possibility of contaminants being present on site
and, if a redevelopment were to take place in the future, whether or not a detailed Phase 1
Study would be required. |
